The Iconic Puzzle Game Couldn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

As any significant awards ceremony approaches, there’s always a demand for introducing of new categories to acknowledge underappreciated efforts and delight the hearts of followers who have specialized interests.

Another commentator made the case advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. The same goes for board games, this being a dedicated supporter's campaign. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize since similar to blinkered fanatics, I have a cast-iron argument supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Categorizing art by genre is not a science; it remains highly personal, and it will always start arguments concluding with vague boundaries. There’s a reason movie academies don’t do it. However, it represents an unavoidable compromise within the realm of gaming, showing incredible range they hardly constitute a single creative category.

To recognize the complete range of interactive entertainment excellence to gain proper attention, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Sim/Strategy, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories effectively encompass many game types, allowing placement for most games within them.

Not so for puzzle games. No appropriate category exists to put them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: the architectural riddles of one title, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. What category would fit them within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

The Representation Problem

Numerous examples exist of brilliant puzzle games launched regularly without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, and the highly challenging small studio competitions.

  • An iconic brain-teaser got overlooked completely in 2014
  • Another imaginative release was excluded during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
  • Only a few puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often small games, yet the craft behind logic titles is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles rank among the most-played games worldwide continuing this trend for an extended period.

The famous puzzle experience challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become best-selling game of all time; it also contends as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

Proposal and Rationale

Puzzle games wouldn’t have such difficulty. You could fill a field of five engaging, different, qualified experiences every year with ease — actually, with challenge, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these include experiences without proper classification at major gaming awards. Logic title developers operate at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of essential manifestations within interactive entertainment. Comparable to cinema stunt performers, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting generations.
